Identity Theft - Question of the Week

Facts:

You are busy working hard on a Monday (as I am sure we all do) and you get a message on your banking app requesting you to approve a debit order of R 600 for a cell phone contract.

The problem is that you never applied for any new cell phone contract. Luckily, whoever was applying for the contract never managed to bypass the banking app and you found out about someone trying to apply for a new cell phone contract in your name without your knowledge and/or consent.

Questions:

  1. The first question, what should you do in such a situation?

  2. The second question is, what further steps could you take to protect yourself from this happening?

  3. The third question is, has this ever happened to you and what steps did you take to try to sort it out and did it work for you?
